American Bulldogs have never been bred for one purpose only, be it dog fighting or hunting large game. However, history shows that the American Bulldog was a frequent competitor in dog fighting. To be a success in this sort of sports, the dog had to be courageous and determined. Besides, it had to perform quickly and know no weariness. The breed has managed to retain all these qualities.

American Bulldogs are traditionally used in managing cattle, hunting the boar, and guarding property. Yet, the dogs have proved their abilities in other spheres. They are successfully used in canine sports. Numerous American Bulldog owners state that the breed is very agile despite its size.

Thus, Gorm, an American Bulldog owned and trained by a famous breeder, John Kragenskjold, could manage rather high obstacles. The dog was amazingly quick and agile. Its strong grip allowed the dog to catch a rope and hold on for half an hour and even more. It is no wonder that American Bulldogs are now popular not only in the United States but also in Europe and other countries.
