The question of whether to buy purebred Bulldogs from experienced breeders, or to acquire dogs without pedigrees for less money, produced by an occasional breeder, cannot have a dual answer. There should be no speculations on this point because the benefits of purebred puppies are obvious.
First, you know what your Bulldog will look like when it is a grown dog. Crossbreeds will make you guess as to their appearance. Second, your Bulldog will be able to participate in various activities only on the condition it has a pedigree. What's more? If you buy a purebred puppy, you can be sure that you will not face congenital diseases that occur in Bulldogs.
Responsible breeders should have all the necessary medical certificates, registration papers and a pedigree to prove that Bulldogs in the litters they produce are of a high quality. The major goal of a responsible breeder is not to sell all the puppies at the highest price possible and make money, but to improve the breed on the whole, and place the pups into the most suitable homes. A reputable Bulldog breeder should feel responsible for the lifetime of the Bulldogs he produces.
Be prepared to answer many questions of your breeder. It is not a requirement that you should be experienced with Bulldogs, but being knowledgeable and informed on the merits and demerits of the breed is definitely an advantage. A prospective Bulldog owner should be qualified to own such a dog. That involves being dedicated to the breed, understanding the Bulldog's purpose, having time and wish to train and care for the dog. It also takes a household and family situation suitable for raising a Bulldog. Buying Bulldogs from reputable breeders, you get a healthy animal and support and help of the breeder.
